CLINICAL PRESENTATIONS AND SURGICAL COMPLICATIONS IN ACUTE APPENDICITIS AT TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL

Introduction: Acute appendicitis is a very common emergency abdominal surgery. Delayed treatment increases the incidence of complications. The aim of this study was to investigate the presentation, incidence, and prognosis of complications, as well as histological findings in elderly patients with a clinical diagnosis of acute appendicitis
Material and methods: The present observational study was done in the Maharashtra Institute of Medical Education and Research(MIMER MEDICAL COLLEGE), Talegaon, dabhade, Pune , from march 2018 to November 2018. The sample size was included 50 patients with acute appendicitis routinely admitted in our department.
All these patients were admitted with all age groups irrespective of gender .
Results: In our present study , out of 50 patients , there were 45 male patients with only 5 female patients. Mean age of patients was 38.51 years. In our present study wound infection was post operative complication most commonly observed.
Conclusion: Post-surgical Complications of acute appendicitis may include wound infection, bowel obstruction, abdominal/pelvic abscess, and, very rarely, death.
